Bhutan. May or October 2012.
In October 2010 my wife, Nancy, and six travelers spent 10 days and nights in Bhutan. We were so moved by our experience that we have planned trips there in 2011 (fully booked) and again in 2012.
Trips dates will be either in May, to enjoy the beautiful spring vegetation, including rhododendron the size of trees, or October 2012 when golden rice fields shimmer in valleys below the verdant forest slopes. Either season provides a vibrant background for visiting the monasteries perched on mountainsides; the Buddhist festivals; and schools, villages and the main cities.
Tashi, our travel partner and guide. is an extraordinary individual. In addition, several outstanding Bhutanese will join us for talks and small group discussions. One topic will the use by the King and government of a Gross National Happiness Index to measure well-being in Bhutan. This index is based on sustainable development, cultural preservation and the practice of Buddhist principles.
I recently wrote the following to the Bhutan Tourism Council about our 2010 visit, “...We found a peacefulness and compassion in Bhutanese people [that] I want to help travelers from the West experience.”
Please consider joining us, and Tashi, to experience a special place and people with a special way of being.
Cost: Approximately $3000 for 10 days and nights, plus travel to and from Bhutan.
