"Roger, we can't praise you enough for this memorable life experience. Your organization and choices of things to see and do are just a wonderful mix of education, adventure and fun--not to mention the many good and new foods
we got to experience over many bowls of good humor." EP Seattle. 2006.

Greetings and thank you for your interest in our Asia and New Mexico trips. This is our sixth year of organizing and leading small groups of 8-12 people, plus Roger and sometimes his wife Nancy. We hope this year you will join us for what we think will be our most interesting trips yet! Our next three trips are as follows:

NEW MEXICO. August 8-16, 2009. Enjoy multicultural New Mexico, including harvest dances and the arts at one of the state’s nineteen Native American pueblos, the Navajo Rug Auction, the Gallup Inter-tribal Indian Ceremonial and more summer festivities. Relax in Albuquerque, Sante Fe and Jemez Springs. Key themes include adaptation to the land and to the multicultural environment; food, sustainability and health; creativity in the arts and and crafts. Ask us for details.

SOUTHEAST ASIA. Dec. 2009-Jan. 2010. Choose one or more of the following segments:

Segment A. Bali & Java in Indonesia and Singapore. Dec. 20 (depart U.S.) – thru Jan. 2 Includes:

Dec. 22, 2009. Arrive Bali, Indonesia on the 22nd and enjoy 4 days and 5 nights on what is often voted the most popular destination in the world.

Dec. 27, 2009. Fly to Yogyakarta, Central Java, for 4 days and nights in another fascinating Indonesian sub-culture, rich with the scents of flowers, spices batik cloth making and Hindu, Buddhist and Moslem monuments of the past-- plus a rich contemporary life.

Dec. 31. Fly to Singapore for two nights and a sense of one of the great economic and social success stories of our time. Or, return to your home (via Bali, if routed that way.)

Segment B. VIETNAM. Jan. 2-15, 2010.

Jan. 2 Arrive in Vietnam for 13 days and nights. Experience Hanoi’s vibrant French Quarter and national museums, the World Heritage sites of Halong Bay,Hue and Hoi An and northern Vietnam’s tribal areas. We will enjoy a large variety of settings and activities. Jan. 15. Depart for home OR continue on to Laos.

Optional Add On. Luang Prabang, Laos. Jan. 15-Jan. 20, 2010
. Fly from Hanoi to Luang Prabang, for 4 days in the former Royal Capital of Laos and the beautiful countryside nearby. My first visit to Luang Prabang was in 1968. It has changed, but it is still magical. Luang Prabang lies between the Mekong and Khan Rivers. Here in this beautiful, spiritual place, one can relax and enjoy both lowland Buddhist and upland tribal asthetics. One of our activities will be donating Lao-written and illustrated books to school children through a Big Brother Mouse Book Party. (This was a highlight last year!) See: www.bigbrothermouse.com
On 20 Jan. Depart for home, or continue on to Angkor Wat, in Kampuchea (Cambodia).

Optional Add On: ANGKOR WAT , KAMPUCHEA ( CAMBODIA ) Jan. 20-Jan. 24, Fly from Luang Prabang to Seam Reap, Kampuchea, and enjoy the grand monuments of the Angkor Civilization (8th-13th Centuries). We will enjoy the major monuments and also aspects of contemporary life and art, guided by our Khmer friends.
Jan. 25th Depart for home.

Travel Note: It is now possible to travel to and from North America to Bali, Singapore, and Hanoi on daily flights on a substantial number of carriers. And, it is possible to arrive from one city, say Denpasar (the capital and airport for Bali) and depart from another, including Singapore or Hanoi or Phnom Penh, Kampuchea. In fact, tickets were cheaper to arrive Denpasar and depart either Singapore or Hanoi than to travel Los Angeles-Denpasar-Los Angeles!

Central Asia in Summer 2010. Kyrgyzstan and possibly Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Yak yogurt in a yurt in the high pastures, and an intriguing cultural mix throughout.

TRIP PLANNING FOR INDEPENDENT TRAVEL

1. Are you planning to travel on one of our trips, but want to "add on" additional stops or experiences?

2. Do you like our itineraries and approaches, but are not free during our scheduled trip times?

3. Do you prefer traveling independently?

For all of the above, tell us your specific interests and let us help you develop an itinerary and provide contacts.

In 2008 we assisted numerous travelers to add special destinations, activities and interesting people that they would not have met on their own or on a packaged tour. We charge a modest hourly fee, and do not take commissions from those we recommend.
Tell us your interests and we will work with you to make your independent travel very special!
